Bears of Alaska

Experience the heart-pounding opportunity to photograph brown bears

With the guidance of local expert naturalists and photographers

Lake Clark National Park on the Alaska Peninsula is one of the most remote locations in North America yet it is also home to the largest concentration of brown bears in the world. Each summer, coastal brown bears visit the beaches and sedge meadows along Cook Inlet to feed on the grasses, dig for clams and fish for salmon. The momma bears bring their cubs to the beach as a safe harbor from male bears while young subadult bears explore the vast coast in their first years on their own, away from the safety of mom’s side.

The landscapes provide an added benefit, with Slope Mountain and Mount Illiamna rising above the scenes on the beach, creating stunning environmental portraits of bears in their remote landscape.

In addition to the bears, there may also be opportunities to photograph other Alaskan wildlife, such as bald eagles, river otters, moose, red fox and more. And to top off the trip, the food is delicious, homemade at every meal with fresh deserts always at the ready.

A summer photography tour of Lake Clark National Park to photograph brown bears isn’t just a chance to capture stunning images—it’s an opportunity to connect with nature in its most tranquil and transformative form.
